Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics
The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics provides the opportunity for students to learn about agribusiness, agricultural and resource economics, business management, applied economics, mathematics, statistics, accounting, technical writing, finance, and public speaking, among other subjects that are part of a business-economics curriculum. The department offers three nationally- recognized undergraduate degree programs: agricultural & applied economics, agribusiness and dual degree. Graduates are trained to manage food companies, farms, ranches, banks, warehouses, insurance agencies, real estate agencies, and many other businesses. Department of Agricultural Education & Communications
Interdisciplinary agriculture students gain hands-on experience while interning with a variety of communication professionals including national publications, television stations, major agricultural events and more. Agricultural Leadership prepares students to enter a broad array of careers either in the public sector (legislative assistants, agricultural agencies, Extension) or private sector (training and development, management or sales in agricultural, food and natural resource industries). Meanwhile, agricultural communications students communicate and advocate for the agricultural industry. Students develop and fine-tune written, verbal, visual, photography and technological skills with this major. Department of Animal & Food Sciences
The Department of Animal and Food Sciences offers two degrees: Animal Science or Food Science. Student majoring in animal science may choose from four emphases: animal business, production, science and meat science. Separately, the food science program provides the basic course work for a comprehensive background in the processing and preservation of foods. Food science graduates may be employed in areas concerned with food systems management, design and development of new food products, strategies for quality assurance and food safety, or research in basic constituents of food. Department of Plant and Soil Science
The Department of Plant and Soil Science offers two programs: horticultural and turfgrass sciences, and environmental crop and soil sciences. With a degree in horticultural and turfgrass sciences, a student can turn a love of plants into a lucrative career from managing golf courses to owning a nursery. Meanwhile, in environmental crop and soil sciences, students learn ways to improve crop response to environmental conditions, improve efficiency of resource use for crops, reduce use of water resources. Department of Natural Resources Management
It's the goal of the Department of Natural Resources Management to develop professionals with a sound understanding of ecology and skilled in the art, science, and conservation of renewable natural resource management. A degree in natural resources management prepares students to plan, develop, manage, and evaluate programs to protect and regulate natural habitats and renewable natural resources. Students can select one of five emphasis areas within the major. They are conservation science; fisheries biology; range conservation; ranch management; and wildlife biology.
