Athletic Training
Program Info: The mission of the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) within the Division of
Kinesiology is to develop entry-level allied health professionals who will be contributing
members to the field of athletic training. The primary objective is to offer a well-rounded
combination of academic course work and clinical experiences that will educate students
on the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses for the physically
active.
This program will prepare students for entry-level work in secondary schools, colleges
and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs, industrial settings,
and other healthcare environments. The curriculum is designed to meet certification and
accreditation standards set forth by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
(BOC) and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training
Education (CAATE). The program is currently accredited by CAATE. Students who
complete the ATEP will receive a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Kinesiology, and
will meet the requirements to sit for the BOC Examination. Certification is
required to practice athletic training in most states.
