Program Info: Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes: how people act, how they think and how they feel. To approach this broad scope of inquiry at Earlham, we begin the program of study with a core of common courses which enable students to become familiar with the many different theoretical and methodological approaches to psychology. From that foundation of knowledge, students engage in research, interdisciplinary connections and applied courses in psychology.

Earlham's Sociology/Anthropology (SOAN) Department offers a distinctive merged curriculum to study social behavior. The unique blending of these disciplines provides intellectual tools that enable students to explore the layers of rich cultural complexity in thee United States and around the world.

At Earlham, students of History discover a deeper understanding of today's world as well as extend their experience by discovering past worlds. Earlham students of History also learn the discipline of critical inquiry into the human past. They consider not only what has happened, but why it has happened. Our study of History is informed by Earlham's Quaker roots which help us understand a significant idea: peaceful co-existence requires tolerance, understanding and a rigorous pursuit of the truth about the past.
