Architecture
What sets both UC’s undergraduate and graduate architecture programs apart is, among other things, the required cooperative education component. UC is the global founder of what’s commonly known as “co-op,” the practice that requires students to alternate quarters or semesters in the classroom with quarters or semesters of professionally paid work. UC’s co-op program is ranked in the nation’s Top Ten by U.S. News & World Report, and design students routinely graduate with 18 months of real-world professional work experience on their resumes – work experience garnered from around the globe – work experience that makes UC grads very attractive to employers.
Innovative course work is the norm in UC’s architecture program. Challenging opportunities and assignments provided to students include the design and construction of a working solar house on campus; designing and constructing a structure at the bottom of UC’s Olympic-sized pool as part of an “Extreme Environments” design course; and even building self-portrait robots in order to learn to focus on design for the human scale.
