University of Cincinnati
Fashion Design
Program Info: For the past two years, BusinessWeek magazine has ranked the School of Design at the University of Cincinnati (UC) as among the world’s very best . In fact, BusinessWeek’s 2007 annual design issue highlighted UC as a model for design programs that are shaping a new generation of creative managers. The main feature of that annual design issue began with the words: “On the campus of the University of Cincinnati … .”
What sets UC’s design programs apart is, among other things, the required cooperative education component. UC is the global founder of what’s commonly known as “co-op,” the practice that requires students to alternate quarters or semesters in the classroom with quarters or semesters of professionally paid work. UC’s co-op program is ranked in the nation’s Top Ten by U.S. News & World Report, and design students at UC routinely graduate with about 18 months of real-world professional work experience on their resumes – work experience garnered from around the globe. Fashion design students routinely work on co-op in London , New York and Los Angeles and all points in between. Regionally, interest in UC fashion design is so strong that tickets for the program’s annual end-of-the-year fashion show routinely sell out within two to three days of going on sale.
